Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Beyond

CaptureAs Breast Cancer Awareness Month comes to a close, we urge everyone to remember that this battle started in ancient times and STILL continues to rage on today. The disease has been mentioned in almost every part of recorded human history and we are still without a cure. Remember to always be mindful and understanding of those affected, while providing the necessary support for those in need.

Every October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month; a time to increase awareness, raise funds and remind everyone about early detection. This month was founded in 1985 as a way to endorse mammograms as one of the best defenses against the disease. The pink ribbon didn’t become the universal symbol until 1991, when the Susan G. Komen Foundation passed out the ribbons at the New York City race for breast cancer survivors. Today the pink ribbon and month of October are heavily tied into Breast Cancer Awareness.

As mentioned before, this disease is not something specifically important just in the month of October. It should hold heavy importance and significance 12 months out of every year. There are many sites dedicated to Breast Cancer Awareness. To learn more about the disease, see what you can do or simply donate, please visit any of the following:
